Cape Town and Eastern Cape Safari Review

Kate Dashwood from Hampshire in the UK travelled with Baobab Travel in September 2010 to South Africa. Paul organised a holiday for Kate and 4 family members to Cape Town, both a City and Peninsula location, and a short safari in the Eastern Cape. As they didn’t want to self-drive, so we organised transfers and guided day trips for the Dashwoods.

Just a brief note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday. We all agreed it was the best holiday ever! Will we be able to surpass it next year?

Thank you for all your recommendations – each one of which turned out to be superb. We loved The Grand Daddy and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We loved the quirkiness of the decor and the rooms and the food excellent.

Our Footsteps to Freedom tour with Karen was fascinating.  There was so much history I had no idea about, as well as a lot I remembered vaguely from growing up. Cape Town reminded me of Auckland, where I grew up, but on a much grander scale! Annie’s friend Pete was particularly taken with the Robben Island trip and we all loved Table Mountain and the beautiful gardens at Kirstenbosch.

Our trip with Ince was wonderful – she was lovely, and we all enjoyed it immensely. The scenery was breathtaking, and we all enjoyed the unusual aspects, like meeting baboons sitting in the road and ostriches walking alongside it – and on the beach – they kept turning up unexpectedly. Francisca really enjoyed having her questions on the fynbos answered and spending time with Ince while we explored Cape Point.

We loved Boulders Beach Lodge and the penguins, who spent the night noisily outside our rooms –  fortunately stopping about 10 pm!

Again, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We had lovely meals there, and enjoyed seeing the penguins, taking the whale trip and visiting Kalk Bay.

We especially enjoyed meeting you and envy your lifestyle out there in such  lovely location!

A morning jawn in Amakhala Game Reserve

Our safari at Amakhala Game Reserve was such a climax to the holiday!  We all loved  HillsNek Safaris – the place, the people, the animals – it could not have been bettered.  It rounded off a truly wonderful holiday, and I would just like to say an enormous thank you from all of us for your suggestions, your help and for all the arrangements – all of which worked beautifully.  It really was the holiday of a lifetime – except that we all want to come back again soon!
